Personality: Yukari is known around school for being a popular girl, because she’s generally pretty friendly and easy to talk to. She’s a dedicated person when it comes to her studies, her clubs, and friendships… at least to a certain degree. While she enjoys other peoples’ company and does take her friendships seriously, she doesn’t talk very much about herself and prefers to keep most people at an arms-length. It takes for her to put a lot of trust in someone else for her to open up even a little bit, for Yukari seems to be of the mindset that the more people know about you, the more they can use against you somehow. Information about herself is a vulnerability that she can’t afford; her image is everything.

Not the image of a popular girl in high school, but the image that she is a strong-willed woman with no fears or weaknesses, when in fact the very opposite is true. In short, Yukari sometimes talks and acts too big for her britches because she knows that deep down, she’s just a vulnerable little girl who’s scared to be alone. But she can’t exactly have anyone knowing that, now can she?

Once she does become emotionally invested in something, it remains on her mind almost as if it were near-obsession. Her initial suspicion of Mitsuru and the Kirijo group pushed her into heavy research of the company and its history, and was in fact the initial reason she joined SEES, the Shadow exterminators, in the first place. Determined to find the truth of the explosion that took her father’s life, Yukari even involves others in her struggles, unafraid to paint whoever she believes to be the person at the center to be the true “bad guy” responsible – in this case, Mitsuru herself. She won’t stop until she’s found an answer, though whether or not she’s always pleased with that answer is very difficult to say.

Of the same token, Yukari is the type of person who holds grudges very closely to her heart. Forgiveness is a relatively difficult concept for her to grasp – her mother is not an exception, and is in fact barely a part of her life throughout the majority of her years in Iwatodai, a result of neither women willing to admit their mistakes and compromise in order to meet halfway. Yukari can be quite an unmoving and stubborn person when she wants to be; coupled with the fact that she is not unafraid to speak her mind, these characteristics of hers can get her into quite a bit of trouble.

And they have before, and have put others in danger as well, however unintentional it may have been. Her power to summon her Persona Io, then later Isis, is how she feels she can make it up to any of the friends she may have accidentally pulled into bad situations. Her Persona excels in healing and support spells, and makes her a very valuable part of the team. Her confidence as a fighter soars over time as she begins to understand the importance of her role and power, and it helps to make her a much more well rounded person.

Her initial wariness of Mitsuru is proven – by Yukari herself – to be almost entirely baseless, and when Mitsuru’s own father’s life is taken, Yukari swallows her pride, gets over herself, and steps up to the plate in order to guide Mitsuru through this difficult time in her life. While it might have been a challenging step for the younger teen to take, she does so with great determination – as she always will with any problem she chooses to tackle – and the girls remain very close friends from then on, all past issues forgiven and forgotten.

On a personal level, Yukari can come off as… well, to put it mildly, a bitch. She never holds back a verbal punch if the recipient of the lashing is truly deserving of it, but that isn’t to say she picks fights with people for no reason. Quite the opposite, in fact, as there’s almost nothing she hates more than bullying or seeing people take advantage of another person for the fun of it. She is a very just person and can be somewhat idealistic, if preachy.

Appearance: Yukari sports light brown hair that carries down to her shoulders, and always seems to look rather wind-swept. It looks good on her – she’s a pretty girl, with a nice smile. It’s an easy smile to put on, and while not necessarily fake, her smiles usually don’t mean a whole lot to her.
